This section provides In-Service Training, both locally and abroad, for all teacher grades in State and non-State Schools and in the DQSE. Click here to view the:

The Training and Staff Development Section encourages and supports all initiatives for the improvement of teaching and management services aimed at providing a quality education for all. The Section sustains training initiatives submitted by schools, by all departments of the DQSE, MCAST, Junior College, University of Malta and NGO's.

This Section is also responsible for Professional Development Sessions in all State Schools. It issues applications, interviews and/or nominates participants for Council of Europe bursaries, ECML workshops in Graz and United World Colleges.

Work on the design, implementation and review of the curriculum is carried out here. The Curriculum Centre is the venue for meetings with Heads of Department and teachers on matters related to the curriculum.

These centres for foreign languages provide resources, training and guidance to teachers and students. Resources can be used at the centres and can also be borrowed.

Home Economics Seminar Centre

This centre houses the peripatetic teachers for Home Economics and it is the venue for Health Education seminars organised by the Education Officer (Home Economics) and her team of teachers.
The ultimate goal of this centre is:
The improvement of the quality of everyday life for students, their families and households through the efficient and effective management of their resources;
The empowerment of students to make informed healthy life choices that will in turn lead to a healthy Maltese population.

These seminars are organised for secondary school students in both the state, private and independent sector.

eLearning Centre

The eLearning Centre has its own website at Skola - Bringing Schools Together. This portal offers a number of services and links suitable for students, teachers and the general public. From this portal, one can read articles about school activities and news and leave feedback in the comments section. Students and teachers use this portal to access their email accounts.

A number of subsections are available, namely, websites about the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department,  eLearningeLearning Courses, ECDL, eTwinning NSS and Special Educational Needs. IT related articles are being uploaded on the blog.


 

Educational Assessment Unit

Basement of the Education Building, Head Office, Floriana.

This Unit is responsible for Assessment Procedures. It coordinates the construction, proofreading, timetables, printing, distribution and binding of the Annual Examination Papers for Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as the End of Primary Benchmark.  It also makes these papers available online on www.curriculum.gov.mt.

Schools and the general public refer here to all matters regarding any aspect related to Assessment of Learning.

Science Centre
Triq Martin Luther King, Pembroke

The Science Centre hosts the education officers responsible for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Science in primary schools. It also serves as the meeting place for peripatetic teachers who are involved with primary school science teaching.  The centre provides science resources and equipment for loan to primary schools and implements on a regular basis a programme of professional training for teachers.

Drama in Education - The Drama Unit

The centre is responsible for Drama in Education. It holds drama sessions and T.I.E. presentations and is the hub of a programme of activities that branches out to the schools.

SpLD Service - Support for Dyslexic Children

This unit provides a service for dyslexic children and identifies specific learning difficulties of children referred to it.

Design and Technology Learning Centre

The Design & Technology Learning Centre hosts the Education Officer, Support Teachers as well as Skills Teachers. It also serves as a meeting place for Heads of Department. The Centre provides professional training for teachers and technicians on equipment and materials. New technologies are researched and tested before passing on to state schools. The Centre is also responsible in the set up and implementation of construction/refurbishment of the Design & Technology Labs in state, private and church schools, as well as the procurement of tools and equipment.
